APA Thesis Format

Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
a. Background of the Study
• Related studies in the Global, National and Local scope
• First paragraph should state the necessity to conduct the study
• Last paragraph should be convincing enough to justify the conduct of the study
• Cite the sources of the studies by following this format:

b. Statement of the Problem
1. Main Problem is stated
2. Sub-problems are stated and number each with 1,2.3…etc
3. Indicators in every sub problems must follow this format

c. Hypothesis/es

d. Review of Related Literature
• Make a synthesis as the last paragraph of each group of readings classified by variables; source not earlier than 2000
• Literature title must be place as side heading – indented bold (1 tab)
• Cite the sources of the literature by following this format:

e. Theoretical and Conceptual Framework
• Theoretical (based on theory)
• Conceptual (variables/paradigm/model)
• The conceptual framework must be in one page

f. Significance of the Study
• Beneficiaries
• The 1st line (term) must be indented (1 tab) and the 2nd line and the succeeding is normal. Put period after the term

g. Definition of Terms
• Terms (Bold)
• The 1st line (term) must be indented (1 tab) and the 2nd line and the succeeding is normal. Put period after the term
• Conceptual Meaning (Based on Dictionary, Article)
• Operational Meaning (The terms being used in the study)

Chapter 2 METHOD
Introductory Statement
a. Research Design
• Type of Research Method

b. Research Subject
• Respondents, Place (Research Locale), Time

c. Research Instruments
• Construction, Validation and Scaling

d. Data Gathering Procedure
• How the study is conducted (Permission to conduct the study, distribution and retrieval of the questionnaire

e. Statistical Treatment of the Data
• Statistical tools used in the study


Chapter 3 PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS

Introductory Statement
• Based on the statement of the problem (side title for each topic presentation in bold letter, single space)
• Table must be in one page, title must be inverted pyramid;
• T = Hindu Arabic Font
• 0.5 level of significance
• 2 spaces between the caption and table

Chapter head – bold 1st level
Chapter side head – bold no underline
Third level – indented bold (1 tab) Italic


Chapter 4 SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

a. Summary
• Introductory statement, research problem, hypothesis, summary of findings, answering quantitatively the specific problems

b. Conclusions
• Based on the findings but answering the problems quantitatively

c. Recommendations
• Enumeration 1,2,3
• Recommendations are offered to the beneficiaries (stated in the significance of the study in chapter 1)
